Sona Comstar MD Vivek Vikram Singh said India must rapidly localise rare-earth permanent magnets—tapping the new ₹7,280 cr incentive scheme and partnering with Quad allies—to cut reliance on Chinese supplies. He’s flagged the need for testing infrastructure so India-made magnets meet global specs, and indicated Sona Comstar will apply for the scheme while scouting foreign tech partners. The comments come as Delhi clears a programme to build 6,000 tpa magnet capacity and firms plan domestic production to derisk EV and clean-tech supply chains.
