Only about 10% of CPGs have integrated AI agents, even as retailers (e.g., Walmart–OpenAI) race ahead. The article argues that agentic commerce—autonomous agents negotiating, forecasting demand, and coordinating supply—needs a composable, API-first, cloud-native, microservices foundation so agents can talk across functions and partners. Legacy, monolithic stacks silo agents and stall results; brands should pilot, iterate, and standardize data/interop to avoid AI project failures and capture the coming shift where AI intermediates most B2B buying.
