    An MNC’s presentation to the Centre argues India is on a four-step arc:

    • 2013–16: import-heavy (≈78% sourced overseas);
    • 2017–21: import substitution via local assembly;
    • 2022–27: scaling exports to build supply-chain resilience;
    • 2028: an export- and supply-chain-led stage making India “strategically indispensable.”

    The deck contrasts this with China’s edge, duty-free inputs, plug-and-play infra, cheap capital, and scale-rewarding policies, that made the world “dependent” on its chain, underscoring why India must keep deepening components and ecosystem capacity to lock in the shift.
